Question

Is there any API to handle file conversion option?

asked on June 15, 2015

One of our clients is using Laserfische 9.1. They have selected the option "File Conversion" in Laserfische client UI. Whenever they import any electronic docment into Laserfische, it converts into tiff and stores in Laserfische.

We are doing integration of our product with Laserfische to push in electronic documents and retrieve from Laserfische. We are using the Laserfische .Net SDKs. We are successful in pushing and retrieving the electronic documents as is. This is working great.

However, the client wants the documents to be converted and stored and retrieved back. The same like how it happens with  "File Conversion" option checked on the Laserfische client.

We are unable to see any API of Laserfische doing this. We also checked forum wherein it is clear that this is not available.

But, want to confirm if there is any API to handle the  "File Conversion" option so that

1.  Files can be imported into Laserfische as Laserfische pages (tiff or .lpz).

2.  Files can be extracted back to original formats.

Also, saw in forums that, once the files are converted to Laserfische pages, the user cannot edit.  Could you pl. confirm?

Thanks  a bunch for your help.

Hi Lakshminarasimha,

I've not found a specific API but there are a number of APIs that allow for images to be imported as Electronic Documents (not converted) or Images (converted). They are all documented.

Please don't post the same question multiple times. This has already answered in your previous post.

The file conversion list applies to known image and text types, it will not convert electronic documents to images.

You are correct that once electronic documents are converted to images, the image component cannot be modified by users. The electronic component, if kept after conversion, is still modifiable (within the security rights assigned to the user).

Laserfiche offers Snapshot as a virtual printer for manual conversion. If you want to do it at import time, you will need to find 3rd party APIs for the electronic documents you're importing.
