Question

Client Field Search vs. Web Client Field Search

asked on June 13, 2015

If I do a field search in Client for a specific keyword in the field Document Title of our General template, the results are 0.  But if I do the search in Web Client with the same Document Title field of General template (although here I am able to specify "contains") - the results are the correct 15 document files.  The field is required.  We do not want general users to have to enter advanced search query syntax - we have strongly encouraged the use of metadata so we are able to take advantage of the greater search ability.  Is this a known bug specific to Client or should we open a ticket?  We are using 9.2.1 Avanti.

Thanks for the assistance.

if you want to do a field contains search in the full client, place an * before and after the data in the field.  No advanced search syntax is needed, but you do need to use the * wild card.

Thank you Bert.  I just tried using wild card but the search in full client still comes up with no search results.

For troubleshooting purposes, I would try looking at the advanced search syntax generated by Web Access and by the desktop Client and posting them here (replacing any confidential information with dummy information). Screenshots of the actual searches would also be helpful in narrowing down what may be causing this difference.

We discovered that the issue was related to another issue in Client login.  The initial problem has been fixed and the wildcard information provided by Bert has resulted in the correct search results.  Thanks!
