Question

Registering a Repository with Oracle: Encountered an error with ODBC driver. Please check the event viewer on the Laserfiche Server machine for more information.

asked on June 9, 2015

While registering a Repository with Oracle we encounter the following error:

"Error 9177: Encountered an error with ODBC  driver. Please check the event viewer on the Laserfiche Server machine for more information"

The error in Event Viewer:

"Repository Creation Error. Data Source Name Not Found. No default driver specified"

We have tested the connection for ODBC driver and TNS Name being used during the repository creation wizard above.

Thanks!

In the Laserfiche repository creation/registration wizard, please confirm that the ODBC driver name you're selecteing matches up precisely with the driver name that you see in the "Drivers" tab of the ODBC Data Source Administrator in Windows.

See KB 1012636 for more information.

Alex,

We have confirmed that the ODBC driver name we are selecting matches up precisely with the driver name we see in the "Drivers" tab of the ODBC data source. Actually it pre-populates the available ODBC drivers in the Repository creation wizard.

Hey there,

If you have the Oracle client installed, just edit tnsnames.ora. You don't need an ODBC connection and that may avoid the issue.

Ben,

Thanks for the reply. Yes the Oracle Client is installed but what should we edit in the tnsnames.ora?

And how can we avoid using the ODBC connection? Can you please provide some more information regarding the same?

Thanks!

Hi Nishit

You'll need to work with your oracle DBA for the information on how to edit the file. Here's a sample of how it might look...

Thanks Ben.

My question was that what needs to be added/updated in the tnsnames.ora so that we can avoid the need of an ODBC connection.

Nishit,

That depends on the name of your Oracle listener server, port number, database name etc.

hi Nishit

may be this will help you.

Important: If you are using any supported version of an Oracle DBMS, the Oracle Client 11.2.0.2.1 or higher with the corresponding version of Oracle Data Access Components (ODAC) must be installed on the machine hosting the Workflow Server.

Note: If you are using an Oracle 12c server, please use the Oracle 11.2.0.3 client on the computer hosting the Workflow Server.

Mazahir,

Thanks for the reply. We have checked the client version and the one we are using is 11.2.0.4.0. We have also installed the corresponding version of Oracle Data Access Components (ODAC).

ODAC is not used by the Laserfiche Server, just Workflow.
