Dynamic Fields and LF Scanning... Still an issue?

asked on June 9, 2015

I have a dynamic field set up to give me a selection of years based on the selection in a parent field that comes before it. The choices for both fields comes from a lookup to a database table in SQL.

This works fine in Laserfiche, I can drop a document in and choose the choices from the fields that are supposed to be there. However, when I try to use this in Scanning, it doesn't give me all of the choices. For example, if I choose a particular selection in the parent field, and I expect to see 2014 and 2015, Scanning might only show me 2015.

To make things more difficult, this seems to be a sporadic issue, as only certain selections in the parent field have this problem, not all selections.

I know that dynamic fields have had known issues in 9.0 and 9.1. We're currently on Scanning version 9.2.1.562, which I believe is the latest. Is this still an issue? If so, does anyone know why it's sporadic? Also, I've had other selections in the parent field that had the problem, but then later resolved themselves, and we don't know how. Does anyone have a workaround for this or know how it might resolve itself?

This is fixed in the latest service pack for Laserfiche 9.2.1. Please see KB 1013659

Child dynamic field values did not load correctly when using the keyboard to type into the parent dynamic field. This issue is now resolved. (129143)

I installed this SP and still have the problem of the value set in a dynamic field cleared upon storing.

What's my next step?

Please contact your Laserfiche reseller to open a support case. There may be something specific to your process that's causing an issue.

Thanks Alexander.

I had 9.2.0.343 installed so I upgraded to 9.2.1.635, then applied the scanning hotfix (KB1013659) and it works great now.

A support case was opened and was found that the issue only occurs when typing into the parent field to select the initial value. The dependent child fields would then have inaccurate available values to select from.

It was found that the issue did not occur when only using the mouse to select the dynamic fields.

A software change request has been filed and we'll be looking into the matter.

Dynamic Fields and Scanning has been resolved in 9.2.1
https://support.laserfiche.com/KB/1013609

Scanning

  • Laserfiche Scanning now properly filters results for child dynamic field values (123786)
  • Saved documents now properly retain values for child dynamic fields. (121982)
  • You can now properly select field values in dynamic fields that are multiple-value fields. (111598)

I am using dynamic fields in Laserfiche scanning and haven't had any issues. I am using 9.2.1.562.

Okay great, so this is not an issue in the newest version. This explains why it's not happening to all of the selections, only certain ones.

But now I need to figure out why it's happening to only certain selections, and fix it... any suggestions?

Remember I mentioned that this has happened to only some of the selections in the parent field, but most of those have since resolved themselves, and we don't know how. There is still one selection that we know of that is not filtering the child results correctly.

I could manually fix it, but that doesn't tell me how it got like this in the first place, and prevent it from happening again. Is there some way of refreshing or updating so that Scanning can see all choices in the table?

Hi Rick,

Is this an issue that you can consistently recreate (selecting one specific parent field value and the child field available values are incorrect) when scanning a new document?

If so, then please open a support case and provide a database backup that contains the external table referenced in that template for the dynamic field setup. It'd also be helpful to get screenshots of exactly how the dynamic fields are configured.

Regards

Hi Alex...  yes, I can recreate it on the same selection every time. I will create the case. Thanks.
