Question

Terminal Server on Separate Subnet

asked on June 4, 2015

I have a situation where we have a terminal server that end users RDP into to use Laserfiche Version 9.1. They are experiencing a lot of slowness in the program: Authentication, browsing ect. Other users on the network do not have this issue.

The LF server and the terminal server are on separate subnets. When the terminal server is moved to the same subnet as the Laserfiche server, then the issue disappears and everything acts as it should. When moved back to the secondary subnet, the issues with slowness start again. Users who are NOT using the terminal server ARE on the secondary subnet but do not experience any issues with usage.

Is there something that needs to be configured for that machine for the separate subnet for Laserfiche?

Is there a firewall in between subnets? Is the LF client using the broadcast or is attached by the name of the server.  Try attaching by IP to by pass dns.

Hello Raymond,

There is no firewall between the subnets.

The Client was using the broadcast from the server.

Tried manually attaching using the IP address of the LF server but it did not resolve the slowness.

Travis

What do you mean by "we have a terminal server that end users RDP into?"  Where is the client installed?  Is the LF client on the different subnet or on the server they are RDPing into?

There is a dedicated machine that is set up for the users to use Remote Desktop to access. This machine that they have used RDP to access has the Laserfiche client installed on it. This machine is on a separate subnet from the Laserfiche Server.

Users use their individual windows login accounts to log in to RDP and LF?  If so, is it slow for all users using the system or only for some?

What exactly is slow?  Is everything slow or only slow at specific points? If the latter, where exactly?

Does the RDP machine have internet access? Can you browse the web through the RDP box?

Yes

All

This is only slow when launching this application.  Slowness specifically occurs at the point of the login prompt for Laserfiche and printing with the Laserfiche proprietary printer.

Everything else runs like normal and as expected.

Yes, Yes

Does the RDP box have a hosts file?  If so, can you add the LF Server IP on it to bypass DNS.

We have already tried this with no success.

Open the registry on the client.  Go to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Laserfiche\Client8\Profile\Options,
there is already a setting named "thunk".  IF the value of Thunk is anything but 0, Set the Value to 0

Save it. Then start the client normally and attach by IP.

Same behavior?

After checking the registry, there is not "Thunk" setting. Do you want us to create it and set it to 0 and test?

Howdy!

We are experiencing something similar but it is not just on the client but on other Laserfiche components. What did you all do to fix the issue? Please advise.

Thanks,

Norma M.
