"Network failure" error when trying to fill out a form on LF Mobile

asked on May 24, 2015

One of our customers is having an issue where they are able to browse the repository on LF Mobile, but when they go to "Fill out a form" on the sidebar, it tries to load for about a minute and then gives the following error:

"Network failure. Please check your network connections."

The Forms server in question is reachable via the browser and there aren't any issues there. Only LF Mobile gives this error message.

LF Mobile service is installed on the same machine as the Forms server, and the machine in question is on the DMZ. There are no error messages in the event viewer.

Anyone else seen this before?

Please confirm that the Forms URL specified in the Laserfiche Mobile Configuration page is correct. Also, the URL is case sensitive so if your web application is called "Forms" then that's what you need to enter in.

Yes, the URL is correct. The configuration page actually complains if you enter a URL that it's not able to verify. :)

I also double-checked that it is specified as "Forms" in both locations.

There's actually two Forms servers: one on the DMZ (Forms Portal, same machine as LF Mobile service) and one inside the network. However, both of them give the same error when accessed from LF Mobile.

Is the issue only with filling out a form or does it also occur when viewing pending tasks or the user's history?

It might be best to open a support case. Provide complete versions of Forms and Mobile. Also indicate what aspects of using Forms from LF Mobile work (if anything) and don't work. Also provide complete application and system event logs from the relevant servers.

Thanks Alex. The customer decided to use Forms via the web browser for the time being, but if we come back to LF Mobile I'll open a case.

When you say it works from the browser - you mean the mobile browser on same network connection? The above error is the generic network error the mobile http client receives if it cannot talk to the Forms server and since it happens when they click on the "Fill out a Form" that being the very first web service call the app issues to the Forms - it means the app cannot talk to Forms. It is possible you configured Forms on the Mobile Configuration as "localhost"? That would explain why the Mobile Configuration page can talk to Forms but not the app.

I'm also experiencing a similar issue, except when trying to access forms from the mobile app no error is given it simply just doesn't load. I tried accessing forms from the browser on my mobile and the DNS lookup fails for the server name, but typing the IP address manually seems to work fine. However back in the mobile app even though the server name appears in the list it will not connect (I'm guessing because of the same DNS issue) and there is no way to enter an address manually. Is there any way you can work around this? Could it be a similar problem Ege is experiencing with the network connection error?
