Question

Web Access does not reference the correct creation time

asked on May 22, 2015

Hi,

We have just noticed that when viewing Documents or folders via the Web Access client, the Creation data and time is out by an Hour. This seems to be a recent change in behaviour as older document and folders reference the correct date and time when compared to the Laserfiche Client. IT is unclear when this behaviour started at this stage.

Please see the screenshots below indicating a folder with a Document created today in the Laserfiche client and when it is viewed from the same Laptop but through the Web Access client it says that the document was actually created an hour in the future:

What could have caused this? You will also notice in the above screenshot, that older documents seems to be shown correctly so that indicates there is specific moment where the behaviour has changed but it is unclear at this time when that was.

I forgot to add that our Laserfiche Server and Web Access Server is hosted on the Same VM Server so both have the same date and time configuration.

I would guess that it's a time zone issue.  Web Access will use the time settings of the browser machine by default, but it is possible to override this in the settings dialog.  If you open that dialog and go to the Locale | Regional Settings section, you'll see what Web Access is using/auto-detecting.

If that's not it, there are more exotic possibilities.  Have the rules for daylight savings changed in your timezone recently?  It may be that the Web Access server hasn't been updated with the new rules, and it will be off by an hour for a few weeks a year.

The timestamps are stored on the server as UTC and converted to local time by the client & Web Access. What is the time zone that Web Access shows under Settings->Locale->Regional Settings:

I checked my time zone settings and they are set correct for our country and we do not have Daylight Saving.

I then also checked the Web client Local Settings and it is sitting on Auto-detect.

the strange thing though is this moring, the time is being reflected correctly for the Entry I took the screenshot of on Friday. I also created a new Test doc and it also showed correctly.

I know there was windows updates applied to all servers over the weekend and all Server had been rebooted, could this have fixed the behaviour that we had noticed?
