We would like to reduce Weblink down time and install the latest version of Weblink 9.0 to a new Weblink server while keeping our current Weblink server running. Is this possible?
Question
Question
Is it possible to run two instances of Weblink, one running version 8.2 and the other running version 9.0
Answer
Yes, so long as they are on different machines and connected to the same Laserfiche Server, there shouldn't be an issue. We use that exact same setup internally when we test pending versions, you'll just use a different machine in the URL to access them.
Note that the Laserfiche Server does create, or even care about, the instance. It's just that you'll have two web applications pointing into it at the same time. Note that they will compete for public portal license slots though if you have a limited number of seats.

I'm curious why you would want to run 2 different versions of the software instead of having both of them on the same version?
So I have the opportunity to test version 9.0 without affecting the currently running weblink server. This will reduce the down time while I migrate the multiple sites (virtual directories). We do not use the default folders so when Weblink upgrades it will require modifying each site. If I could keep the current version running while I migrate sites the down time will be much less.
The licensing should be fine for WebLink so long as they are pointing to the same Laserfiche Server - WebLink licensing is tied to the Laserfiche Server, not the indiviudal WebLink instance. You'll need to install each WebLink instance on a different machine.
Thank you Justin, I have 2 weblink servers setup so if I understand your response, your saying I can leave the original server running and then install ver 9.0 on the second server and when it prompts to activate the Laserfiche server will create a new instance? Is that all that's involved in the installation?
