Question

upload document

asked on May 11, 2015

Hi Everybody,

I have a  repository where a set of users do not have access to upload/scan/create documents.

These set of users are supposed to read and add metadata to documents.  We will eventually create business processes (approval) assigned to documents present in the repository.

Within business properties in the above scenario, can I browse to my computer and upload file to the folder though I do not have upload rights on the folder. i.e. the workflow uploads the file, not the user directly

If you expect Workflow to read the files from the user's machine, then no, it's not possible. Workflow doesn't have any import capabilities out of the box, but you could script something that reads files from the Workflow Server's disk and imports them into Laserfiche. Depending on the number of users, this can have a performance impact on your Workflow Server.

Why not allow the users to import documents into an "Incoming" folder and have WF file them to the proper location afterwards?

Well let me explain you the scenario:

A document is received by post, is scanned, metadata is added to the document. A worklfow must be created to capture set of instructions then route the document based on the instructions. One person creates a document which is a response to the document received, and this document is reviewed and approved by a set of users.

As above mentioned: I can create a folder, where I allow them to create and upload documents. Then I must provide reviewers access to review the document.

Hi Miruna,

You are right I prefer go for creating an incoming folder where the users are able to upload documents to the repository.

In fact, the workflow is initiated on a main document A, then a user uploads a document B as reply to Document A. Both Document A & B must be reviewed by all participants of the Workflow.  How can we achieve this using LF Workflow?

So how does one know that Document B is related to Document A? Is just because they're on the same folder?
