query audit trail in workflow

In a work flow I want to check the Audit trail on a document, Who was the Frist person user to set a field to a certain value.

Then with this value I can route the document back to the user because it failed validation on the ERP intergration.

You would do this by running SQL queries directly against the audit database. The schema contains views that you should find useful, and the documentation will tell you which event type number represents field modification.
