Question

Question

feasture request: click to index

asked on April 30, 2015

Use Case:

When in the document viewer, you put your mouse cursor to the metadata, click a button then rope around a word or group of words then it grabs those word/words and puts it on the metadata. This can also be applied to QF.

prerequisite:

document needs to be OCRed prior to the above steps

thoughts:

when doing a document text in laserfiche, the results will highlight the word on the image and the document text pane, so I'm assuming there is a connection between the two in the background, so basically using the same "connection" to the click-to-index button.

Hi Levi,

You can actually drag text directly from the image pane into fields right now in the Client, provided you are using the selection tool and aren't doing the lasso to zoom operation. You do have to drag it instead of just clicking on it, but that's becuase otherwise we wouldn't know the field you wanted to index.

Justin, what if when clicking on it showed a menu of the available fields it could go in? Similar to when you are choosing a token.

ooohhh, Justin, I tried it on LF Client 9.2.1.562, i tried going to Tools>Selection Tool, where do I turn off the lasso to zoom operation?

What worked is highlighting from Text Pane and drag to a field.

Levi, if you hold down control (i think, might be shift) while you do the lasso, it should work anyway. The option just sets which one is the default and is in Tools\Options\View

I think it was added in a later version of the v7 Client, but I'm not 100% sure. It's kind of hidden though. wink

In using this feature, I noticed that SOME areas worked great (for example able to draw a rectangle with a bit of room AND non touching outside text) HOWEVER some on the same page did not.

Are there written guidelines in using this features?

I've attached a picture in which the red dot roped off text did NOT convert to a metadata field.
