Question

Setup could not determine the install type

asked on April 30, 2015

After a 'complete' un-install - on Laserfiche client 9.2, dialogue indicated a failed uninstall of language packs. This was followed by a re-install, and the 'existing installations', 'detecting installed laserfiche products' picks up the language packs which were not previously uninstalled, and then displays the dialogue above in a pop up window "Setup could not determine the install type" vbOK.

This disallows any progress wrt further installation.

Could anybody please offer any advice on how to clear this error.

Does the LF client still show up in add remove programs?

Try running MS Fixit https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/mats/program_install_and_uninstall and see if the LF client shows up in the list of applications.  If it does, use MS Fixit to uninstall it then run the installation again.

Hi.

Nope the Lasfiche Client does not show up in the list of applications. It showed the uninstall dialogue, and ticked all fields except language packs as completed (language packs failed). However, in the list of options, I cannot see, or run an uninstall for language packs. And LF recognises the language packs as a valid install, so will not run any further.

Also, perhaps prudent to mention, I am running Windows 10 OS, which does not allow the MS-Fixit option.

We are having this same issue with Quick FIelds 9.0 on a Win 7 machine, and cannot get the FixIt program to fully download, trying multiple machines.

Are there any updates to this issue?

Have there been any resolutions?

Resolution is to uninstall the client, delete the Client folder in program files, and reinstall. (according to LF Support case I opened)

Is there any update on this problem? I am having the same problem after uninstalling Laserfiche client 10 through Control Panel, when I try to install keeps saying that the language pack still there.

For anyone reading this in 2025, with the latest v11 installer, this is still an issue.  I ran into it while upgrading the Windows client from 10.4.0.311 to 11.0.2305.274.  The linked fixit tool has been deprecated.  Official support ended with Windows 10 and the MSDT program is being phased out.  The only resolution seems to be a clean uninstall and reinstall.
