Question

Using Custom OCR from SDK

asked on April 30, 2015

Hello,

Using the LF SDK we can develop a routine to OCR documents by code.

This is working fine when using the normal LF Client installation and OCR engine (OmniPage)

On the other hand, there is the CustomOCR Toolkit, which allows using a third party OCR engine from inside the LF client interface.

Unfortunately this CustomOCR toolkit is not working with LF client newer than 9.0, but this is not the subject of this question.

My case is that, when I tried to use the CustomOCR engine from the SDK, I got the following error:

This application has failed to start because LFWicUtil.dll was not found.

I found that the SDK allows selecting the OCREngine to be use (MyOCR.OCREngineID = "EngineID")

but I tried many options (also selecting the OmniPage Engine) and neither of them worked.

If I remove the CustomOCRToolkit from my computer, then the OCR routine works pretty well.

Could someone help with the above?

I haven't try the .Net version of SDK: if this is a better option and could do the job, please let me know.

Thank you for your time and best regards,

I'm not sure why your custom OCR engine would fail with that error, especially because LFWicUtil.dll is a Laserfiche dll that should be installed with the sdk. I would suggest using Process Monitor to find out which process is looking for LfWicUtil. If that doesn't help, please open a support case so we can troubleshoot it further.

Hi Robert,

I found a copy of the file, put it under C:\Windows and the error is gone.

Thanks for your help!!!

Hi Robert,

thank you for your reply. I ran the procmon and found that the file is not found (even though i do have SDK 90 installed). As a fast test, could you please where this LFWicUtil.dll file should be located, and where i can find a copy, to paste it there?

Shall I register it usign regsvr32?

Thank you and best regards,
