Question

Briefcase export

asked on April 24, 2015

When I do a briefcase export and download the file, it is saving as a .lfb file. When opening the file, I get an error message from Adobe Reader indicating the file could not open because it is either not a supported file type of because the file has been damaged.

Fyi, I am currently running Adobe Reader XI.

A Laserfiche briefcase (.lfb) is a file used by Laserfiche. Typically when you export documents as a briefcase, the main purpose of it is to then import it into a different repository.

If you want to view the contents of a Laserfiche briefcase without having to import it into a repository, you can just rename the .lfb extension to .tar.gz and view its contents using an application like 7-Zip.

What version of the Laserfiche client are you using? Are you exporting it as a PDF or as a briefcase? Can you explain the process further?

We are running version 9.02. We can export the document as a PDF with no problem. It is when exporting the document in Briefcase without or with encryption that the problem arise.

So, other than importing the file into a different repository, using the briefcase to export wouldn't necessarily be of any benefit to users?

Perhaps not in the general sense. If the goal is to export the document, then they may be better served by exporting as an image or electronic document, whichever is more applicable.

You can refer to this help file regarding exporting from Laserfiche.

Thanks for the replies.

In that case, is it possible to disable the Briefcase function? I want to disable the Briefcase function, but still allow users to export as a PDF, image, etc.
