Question

thumbnail view displays TEXT images

asked on April 22, 2015

We are running 9.x client.  When you set your view style to be thumbnails... it is displaying the TEXT and not the image.  How can this be corrected?  It doesn't matter if we are looking at the folder view with the documents displayed on the right or if we open the document in document viewer and the thumbnails are displaying as the text.  Note that if a document cannot be displayed if even shows the thumbnail as "error (6390) loading this for page 1"

Does the electronic document if there is one display correctly? If you open the view for the image does the image display or does it say that there is not image for the file? Also, does this effect all users or just some users? It maybe the case where text is being generated but no Laserfiche pages are being generated. If text is OCR'ed for the document but no pages are generated for the document it will display text for the thumbnails. Try to generate pages for the document again and see if this issue persist.

These are tiff files!!!  They are 'maps' that have been scanned in as tiffs.  As to affecting all users, it affects many 9.x users including myself.  When they were using 8.3 we did not have this issue.  I took the one tiff map that had garbage and re-ocrd it.  It cleaned up the garbage but when I go to "VIEW STYLE" to be thumbnails is still wants to show the text and not the image.

Hey Bonnie,

When you import a tiff image, the Laserfiche Server should generate a page/s and thumbnail/s for that file. Once these have been generated, they should display within their respective Panes in the Document Viewer.

Is it the case for all your tiff images that there is no thumbnail, other than the generated text? What about a new tiff image that you import, will this also not receive a thumbnail?

If you go to an image's properties, there you will find the path for the images, text, and thumbnail files for that image relative to the volume it belongs in. The LFT files are the thumbnail files. If they aren't present, then that means the Server is not generating the thumbnails for you. If they are present, that would imply an issue with the database not identifying them and displaying them correctly.

Here is some information about Volumes and what they contain that may be helpful.

Thanks,

In the scenario we have mentioned I went went out to the volume.  There is no .loc or .lft associated with the (2) document.  the tiff is there.

I tried taking the maps and put them on my desktop and dragged them into LF as new images.  It still would not create the thumbnail for the one map I was having issues with.  The other map that did have a thumbnail did create a thumbnail for the new one.  I continued to drag other documents in and it created the thumbnails.  I tried the one map again and again it would not create the thumbnail.

So could there be something wrong with the document?   You mentioned above that if they are not present, that would imply an issue with the database not identifying them and displaying them correctly..... so how can I determine if it's the image or the db?

Hi Bonnie,

So you have some maps that can be imported into the repository and when they are opened in the Client, the thumbnails are generated properly? However, there are other maps (specific TIFF images) that when imported, do not have thumbnails generated properly?

If that's the case, then it does appear to be something document specific. Please open a support case with your Laserfiche reseller and provide a copy of one of the problematic documents if you can.

Regards
