Office documents in WebLink search results are not opening, gives error

asked on April 20, 2015

Hey,

We're seeing some issues with search results in Weblink which if they return a word/excel type document then if you click on it, you get an error screen (The system has encountered an error and could not complete your request):

PDF documents work fine.

These results are shortcuts, if I search a folder of the actual documents it seems to work properly, the file downloads directly if it's a non-PDF (except for the fact that occasionally I get the 'ElectronicFile.aspx' file downloading rather than the actual document for some reason).  If you browse to the office documents using the 'browse repository' then it works fine as well (either shortcuts or the actual files).

It seems to not be permission related, all accounts seem to be having the same issue.

Bug perhaps with the resolve shortcuts option?  We are using this, it's been great otherwise.  I did notice that if you click on the down arrow on the search result for a document that 'won't work' and then click on a thumbnail image, you will get the document viewer up and then you can click the download arrow in the toolbar to get the whole document.  Kind of a pain but it works for now.

I'm on weblink 9.0.0.259 and LF 9.2.1.562.

Sorry to drag up an old issue, but we're having the same problem all over again.  I've updated to Weblink 9 SP2 but it didn't resolve it, anyone else seeing this issue?

Shaun,

Were you ever able to find the issue here?  I have a customer running WebLink  9 Update 2 (9.0.1.350) that is having the same issue when attempting to open Word doc's from in WebLink.  I'm going to open a support case but hoping you've already round the answer.

Nope I haven't gotten to it yet and have not found a solution.  Though if the issue is affecting you guys as well then I'm guessing it's not me, perhaps some sort of windows update or something.  Let me know if you get it sorted before I do.

Thanks for reporting this issue. We were able to recreate it and a software change request has been filed in our system.

One workaround for now may be to configure WebLink to open other electronic documents in the document viewer. When users click on the shortcut from search results, they'll get taken to the document viewer with a link to download the electronic file. It will get them past this issue for now, although it does add one more click to the process.

We'll update this thread again when there's more information about when a resolution may be available.

Hi Alex, yeah this is what we discovered yesterday with the VAR.  I'm glad you were able to reproduce it though, I've been pulling my hair out for a few weeks with this.

Unfortunately the open electronic files in viewer is also the same trustee attribute that affects the actual client software doing the same thing, which is a pain, so hopefully there will be a proper resolution soon.
