I am wondering if a new field type of Barcode could be added to Forms?

The use case would be if a user fills out a public form and later brings that form into our offices and needs something done. If we are able to create a barcoded field that could populated with a value from a database lookup or a stored procedure, or another field variable depending on the step it's at in the process, when the public user prints out that form and brings it in, we could simply scan that barcode to search within Forms or another system for that number.
