Question

large backfile scanning

asked on March 31, 2015

Hello,

We are reaching out to understand the fastest way to import 3 million scanned pages into Laserfiche.  Our customer is using a scanning bureau for the backfile conversion and the customer wrote " We are using file typing to create the import to enable us to retrieve a specific file type within the selected system. Please let me know what information you need from us to prepare the import specification file".    Would appreciate hearing from others that have brought in this type of volume.

Thank you,

Others will of course chime in on this but the first thing I would look at is to utilize import agent. You could have them scan to a network drive where it could be monitored by import agent.

We did the same thing but ours was about 5 million pages.  We had a 'blank page' that separated the different cases.  Import Agent brought them in and once a document was created in a certain folder, the Quickfields session assigned and populated the template fields by parsing out the file save as name.

In addition I have brought in other documents in batch file mode using Import Agent Zonal OCR and Workflow.  When the information on a page changed in a certain location it created a new document and then WF or QF could do the db lookup to populate the template.  We have also used (and using barcodes) which works great.  You put a preprinted bar code on the first page of a document and when the Zonal OCR detects the bar code it creates the new document and auto populates the template with the barcode information.
