Question

What user windows rights required to save default scanning settings?

asked on March 30, 2015

What windows rights user need to save scanning settings such as default dpi? Is this requirements different for different models and manufacturers, Kofax, ScanConnect? Ability to write to registry?

Currently I'm interested in fi-6770 with HW Kofax. But because this question raised every time in secured domain environment, where even local administrator rights might be overwritten by security policy, detail information on the subject greatly appreciated.

Hello Mike,

Are you referring to basic or standard mode scanning?  Or are you referring to Quick Fields?  Exactly which settings are you referring to?  The "Options" screen from the File menu?  The OCR Settings?  Scanner options or settings?

With a bit more information, I'll be able to check on exactly where these settings are stored to help discover the exact rights that are needed to help the users maintain their scanner settings.

I think Kofax requires local administrator rights to write to the .ini file. I don't know if they relaxed that requirement in newer versions of VRS. You're probably going to get a better answers on the Kofax forums.

Thank you all for reply. I'm referring to saving dpi settings for both Standard and Basic modes of Laserfiche scanning, accessible from File ->Options menu.

Number of companies set policies that restrict grant users Local administrator and even PowerUsers rights. It is why important to know what files (or registry) user need be able to write to.

Right, those are the scanner settings and would go to Kofax.ini when scanning through Kofax, which is not under Laserfiche's control.
