Question

Question

incorrect dynamic field result

asked on March 30, 2015

I have 3 fields where each are looking up a value in the same table. It is being nested as such:

When a user tries to add a new document to Laserfiche with metadata, the template is selected. The user selects a value from Field 1, then field 2 is available with some values. Field 2 is selected and then field 3 is available with some values. The field 3 however sometimes would give a wrong value to select. If you try it again, then it shows a correct value. It happens very intermittently. I have verified the tables to see if there's any erroneous entries, but everything is fine on that side. Any idea what might be happening here?

What version of Laserfiche is being used? How many rows are in the external table? Can you confirm that Field 3 has both Field 1 and Field 2 as the Parent fields? Could this be a timing issue, meaning that if the user sets a field and waits a few seconds before setting the next field, is there an issue?

Alex, I do have similar setup as you described where the tertiary field has both the first and secondary field as parent. There are about 112K rows in that table. I have updated the server from 9.1 to 9.2.1 and hope to see if it helps.

I am seeing a similar/same issue, but mine is consistently happening every time.  I also have 3 values, a Primary, Secondary and Tertiary field.  Running LF 9.2.1.562 client and server.

The way we do it is to select a template.  The template has a table assigned in SQL.

Then, I select a Primary which is unique.  I get the appropriate Secondaries to come up.  Some of these secondaries are in every Primary (for example, we may have one called '01 General').  If I select a unique Secondary folder, then I will get the proper items in the Tertiary field.  If I select a non-unique secondary (ie: it is in other Primaries as well) then I will get a list of all tertiary fields in all other same named secondaries.

I've attached some pictures, these are two separate primaries and they are getting the same tertiary information even though the second one has no tertiaries at all that should show up.  This is consistent, if I pick any primary that has a '01 General' it will have the same list of tertiaries (within that template).  Other templates have the same problem.

sorry for the crappy screenshots, I'm not sure how to screen shot a drop down list in windows since clicking off of it will close it and print screen doesn't seem to show it.

So to confirm, the "Record Series" field is your primary field. When you select either "1980 Taxation..." or "1870 Letters of Credit..." then the "Secondary Folder" field is supposed to have "01 General" as an available value? Is that part correct at least?

Then are you saying that the combination of "1980 Taxation..." and "01 General" should display the three options pictured in the "Tertiary Folder" field, but the combination of "1870 Letters of Credit..." and "01 General" should not display any values in the "Tertiary Folder" field?

If that's the case, then can you confirm that your dynamic field properties which were configured in the Laserfiche Administration Console are that in which the "Record Series" field has no parent fields, the "Secondary Folder" field has the "Record Series" field as its parent field, and the "Tertiary Folder" field has both the "Record Series" and "Secondary Folder" fields as its parent fields.

Based on your description above, it sounds like that you have the "Tertiary Folder" field setup with just the "Secondary Folder" field as its parent field and not both the "Secondary Folder" and "Record Series" fields as the parent fields.

If all of that has been confirmed and there's still an issue, please open a support case with your reseller. If I have misstated anything, please clarify how the dynamic fields should be working.

Alex, you're a smart man.

Our issue was the tertiary only had the secondary as the parent.  This was the way it was setup by the reseller; I'm surprised we only noticed now but I think it's due to the fact that we only really started using the tertiary level recently.

I changed it to both the secondary and primary (record series) and it works now.

Sounds like a different issue than the original poster had, sorry to hijack the thread.
