We have successfully migrated our License Manager to a Directory Server and have been running smoothly on it for a few months. We are now wanting to implement Organizations to better handle license allocation. I have added existing AD Users into the Organizations without any issues and the organization correctly shows the number of used licenses. Now I also want to allocate some of the applications (including Laserfiche Servers and their Full repository named users) to their respective Organizations, but when I attempt to edit the applications instance, the organization is set to Root and grayed out so that I cannot change it. Is it possible to move an existing application between Organizations inside Laserfiche Directory Server?
Question
Question
Can I move an existing Laserfiche Server between organizations in Directory Server?
Answer
It is currently not supported to move an application from one Organization to another.
If you wish to move the application to another organization, you should delete the application instance that belongs to the first organization, create a new application instance belonging to the second organization, download a new license from the new application instance, and replace the old license on the Laserfiche server.
Though this seems like simple functionality, it could be potentially very complicated allow moving an application from one organization to another. To better understand your use case: did you start off with no organizations, and now want to implement organizations, and thus must move applications from the Root organization to new organizations?
Replies
Yes, that is correct. I started with none (only Root) and am now adding organizations. I have multiple Laserfiche Servers that have 2-5 Repository Named Users which I would like to have accounted for inside the organizations.
OK, thank you for the additional information; we will keep it in mind in the future. As I mentioned, this features is more difficult to implement than it first appears because of the ability to allocate licenses to specific organizations. If you wish to start using organizations for your existing applications, you will need to remove and recreate them as I described earlier. I will update here if this functionality changes.
I have several situations come up where changing a licenses organization would be very helpful.
