Unable to start Laserfiche Audit Trail Reporting Service

asked on March 25, 2015

I was trying to configure Audit Trail and encountered an error. When I viewed the services running on the application server, I see Laserfiche Audit Trail Reporting Service is not running. When I attempted to start the service, I received an error message that states, “Laserfiche Audit Trail Reporting Service service on [server name] started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs” and the service remains ‘unstarted’. When I look in the event viewer, I see this message:

Service cannot be started. System.TypeInitializationException: The type initializer for 'AuditDBService.Configuration' threw an exception. ---> System.Xml.XmlException: Root element is missing.

I have already tried a repair to no avail.

Please try deleting the Config.xml file in the Audit Trial installation directory (by default C:\Program Files\Laserfiche\Audit Trail). Then see if the Audit Trail service can be started. Note that you'll need to go through the Audit Trail Configuration again.

There is an issue with the default web site itself then or perhaps related to how it's configured, but since the default web site itself returns an error, then Audit Trail wouldn't be expected to work either.

Please first look into the issue the default web site is having and once that's been addressed, try Audit Trail again.

Ended up deleting C:\Program Files\Laserfiche\Audit Trail\Config.xml on application server and everything is performing as expected at this time.

Thanks, the Audit Trail service started.

However, when I try to configure it, I get an error message that states the webpage cannot be found.

I am using IE 9 version 9.0.8112.16421 and the URL passed to IE is

http://localhost/AuditTrailConfig/.

Are you able to view the default web site itself? When you go to http://localhost do you see the IIS 7 logo or do you also get an error?
