Question

add named licenses to directory server

asked on March 18, 2015

Is there instructions for adding named user licenses and applications to the directory server? I can't find it in the documentation. I was under the impression that it was Settings > Renew Master License but that now tried to activate or something.

Renew Master License does reactivate the license, yes. That way it calls back to Laserfiche to find out what other products have been added (or removed). It applies to buying additional products and named users.

So when it says the maximum number of activations has already been reached, what is the process. I just want to add additional licenses and products that were purchased.

It means that the hardware fingerprint probably changed on your LFDS server. That's why it would be treating this as a new activation and failing with the message you're seeing. If you know the fingerprint from when you initially activated the Rio system's licensing database, then you can manually deactivate that first.

And what happens if I manually deactivate a Rio System? I am not looking to cause problems here, just trying to install the new licenses.

Manually deactivating the Rio licensing will remove the registered activation on the LF Activation server.  This will then allow you to activate your Rio system again.

The error about maximum number of activations has been reached means that the fingerprint of the machine you are trying to activate does not match what is on record in the LF Activation server.  If it did match, it would allow the activation.  So you must deactivate what is on record so that you can then activate a new fingerprint.

Ok, so deactivation doesn't mean shutting down any services?
