Electronic Document - Save as a new Version

asked on March 16, 2015

Hi all,

I am saving an EXCEL document into a Laserfiche folder, enabling also version control. Users do not have permissions to create new documents into this folder.

When I open this Excel document and make changes, Laserfiche shows the following options:

- Save as a New Version.

- Save as a New Document.

- Discard Changes.

Should Laserfiche disable (do not show) the option "Save as a new Document"?

If not, is there any way to disable this property from the user's Attributes, or somewhere in Laserfiche?

Thanks,

Hi Andres,

Tough one to explain...

This is the default options users are presented with. If they do not have access to save new documents into the folder where the document is, they will be told this at the time they try and save it.

The reason the option is there, is say if the user wanted to save the document somewhere else in the repository?

There isn't a way to disable this, as even if you make a document read-only (therefore you can read/open the document) you can still copy and paste the document somewhere else where you do have access (or even out of Laserfiche) and edit the document. You just won't be able to overwrite the original.

The only way you could prevent this would be to deny read access to the document. But I'm assuming that's not what you want.

Hope this all makes sense!? smiley
