Question

Using the Connector to Push to a program

asked on March 13, 2015

WE have a very specific request from a customer asking to enter information into Laserfiche metadata, and then having the information push into Quickfields.  From everything I have seen so far, I have not seen that this is possible.  Have I missed anything, so I can be proven wrong on this?

Oh, well in that case, same rule applies - does it take command line parameters, or some other way to pass in data? That's really the question. If so, you can.

It doesn't natively move data to a third-party program (there are no built in actions for it), but one of the build in actions is to 'launch a remote program'. This is primarily intended for allowing integrators to take values obtained through Connector and pass them along as parameters to their own Lf integrations - perhaps a back-end integration that will do something else with it - but can also be used in this manner. It's kind of in the same vein as scripting in Workflow.

Quick Fields does not support command line parameters.

To expand on Miruna's response - Connector can take the values it's obtained from applications and send them to anything that accepts command line paramaters. That can be your own integration script, or direct to another application. I've even seen people use that to pre-populate Forms. It relies on the target application having a way to accept that though, and it sounds like Quick Fields simply doesn't.

I apologize.  I meant Quick Books.  Too many Quick products out in the world.

I just had not read the functionality of pushing from Laserfiche, using the connector to the third party program.  Everything I have read is that it moves the information to Laserfiche, but not from Laserfiche to the third party program.

I will look into getting it to work that way.  I will post any findings I have here to help anyone else with the same question.
