Weird issue with flickering fields in template selection since 9.2

asked on March 12, 2015 Show version history

Hey folks,

We're having a strange issue on any clients that are running 9.2.0 or newer (9.2.1, even the newest release 562). It doesn't occur on 9.1 clients.  This is on multiple systems including the client installed on the server.

So basically, when assigning a template we're seeing odd behavior where if you move your mouse over drop down list fields the metadata window flickers and all the fields resize for a split second to a little larger.  This also causes the drop down list often to close so it basically comes up for a second and goes away.  This issue only seems to occur on files that already have a template assigned and a user is trying to 'refile' them to another template.

New documents with no template don't appear to do this.  Also, if I use the keyboard to move around the fields (tab, spacebar, etc) they work fine.  This is happening all over our repository so it's not specific templates or documents it appears.

I made a video to demonstrate because it's rather hard to explain.

http://screencast.com/t/5xnwhQmaI8I

In the first part I'm just using my mouse to hover over the fields without clicking and you can see there is a white bar on the right side that appears and goes away beside the vertical scroll bar.  After that I'm clicking once on the drop down fields, and you can see them come up and go away on their own without me able to select anything.  Finally at the end I'm just using the keyboard to move around the fields which works fine and is what I've resorted to doing, but I'm not going to update my other users clients past 9.1 until I can get some sort of resolution on this.

Anyways, hopefully someone else can reproduce this issue!

Thanks!

-Shaun

Please see KB 1013655 for a hotfix.

Hey Alex,

I wanted to provide some feedback on this patch, I've been running it for a couple of weeks (got it through support) and I just tried this version just in case it was different, but it's the same.

Anyways, the patch does seem to fix the issue if I bring up the metadata on a single file, however if I select multiple files and open the metadata ("Fields") the flickering issue still persists.  So I'm guessing whatever the patch does it doesn't work on the fields dialog box.

I'm hoping it's an easy adjustment?  :)

Hi Shaun,

When you have multiple documents selected, the Client looks for the html in a different location. Please also place a copy of the Template.htm file into C:\Program Files (x86)\Laserfiche\Client\en

We'll update the KB article as well.

Thanks

Looks like you linked the wrong video?

I can't reproduce the problem but I'm guessing it is related to the version of Windows and/or Internet Explorer because the field control is a MSHTML control internally.

Has there been any resolution to this issue? We are unable to set metadata on folders until this is resolved. I need some sort of workaround since we use folder metadata in many of our workflows.

For diagnostic purposes, we are standardized on Windows 7 Professional and IE11 although our users don't use the IE browser. They use either FireFox or Chrome.

LF version is 9.2.1

We are looking into it, however I don't think anyone here has been able to reproduce it. I am also running windows 7 with IE11 and it works for me.

I am able to successfully reproduce this issue.

The situation appears to happen when a document has a template assigned, which also contains independent fields, and the metadata panel has a scrollbar because there are more fields than will fit in the metadata pane.

Hi Bryce,

We've got a potential fix for this that Support can provide if you want to verify it addresses the scenario you are seeing.

Hi Guys,

One of our clients have reported this issue also. Can you tell me if there is a fix for this yet? Either hot fix or a workaround or at least an update on the issue?

Many Thanks

Tina

I received a report of a similar issue when viewing metadata on our 9.0.2 system recently. Did not follow up on it since I haven't heard any more about it.

I seem to have the exact same issue. It has happened on Version 9.2.1.562 on windows 8.1. This only seems to be happening with Drop Down Lists as well. Does anyone know what is causing this issue.

We are experiencing the exact same issue. We upgraded to 9.2.1.562 on Windows 8.1 over the weekend and some of the users are affected.

Please work with your reseller to open a support case and provide us with a briefcase containing a sample document that has the affected template assigned to it.

Are these templates using static list fields (configured in the Administration Console) or are they used as dynamic fields, linked to an external table? If they are dynamic fields, can the external table be copied into a brand new database and then the database backup be provided as well?

I am also experiencing the same issue.

Any update before I open a case for our client ?

Thanks

I noticed when adjusting the template field window to display all the fields in a single view the flickering stops and I am able to select a field value generated using dynamic fields. When the window scroll bars are present the flickering returns.

Please open a support case for this matter.
