Question

Using Outlook as an email archive

asked on March 12, 2015

I have been looking at using the Outlook archive but I don’t know enough about Outlook.  So far, I created my own test folders in Laserfiche and manually imported some emails to my folder.  I don’t know If importing such vast amounts of info to laserfiche would be feasible as disc space would be eaten up pretty quickly.  What are your thoughts?

Hi David,

Having everything in one location, be it a scanned document, a piece of post, a client file or an email is pretty much the whole point of installing a document management system. So it makes sense to get all the emails in there, as when you come to look for something, it's all in once place.

In regards to getting the emails in there, there is the drag and drop options and also various 3rd party applications to help you. We use Integrated CMA as an email archive solution and it works very well.

Disk space really won't change that much in as much as instead of the files sitting on the exchange email server they are in Laserfiche instead. Same files/disk space just in a different place.

thank you Chris,

So it sounds like I need an add on to really make this work. I found this:

http://www.laserfiche.com/marketplace/outlook-email-archiver-by-cities-digital/

Would this do the job? it has a cost to it though.

Hi David,

Yes I guess it would. There are many different 'flavors' of email archivers out there each with their own pros and cons. It's a mater of having a good look around and seeing which works best for you. yes
