Merge fields and Metadata cards when migrating from Laserfiche 7 to 9

Hi,

My client want to merge fields et metadata cards into only one metadata containing the significant fields when migrating from 7 to 9. My suggestion is to tell the migration tool to merge significants fields by using the same name and migrate to 9. Then use QF 9 'Merge' feature to change the old metadata card to the new one. Since that the fields are the same with the same name my assumption is that no data will be lost. Is there any caveat to this suggestion? My client do not have Workflow.

Hi Michel,

It sounds like you have the right idea. First step is to upgrade to Laserfiche 9 using the Migration Utility discussed here. Once migration is complete, you can merge the two fields in question. If an entry happens to have both fields of metadata filled in, you can choose which field value should be carried over, or whether both values should be kept.
