Question

Invalid certificate when signing a document in Web Access/Internet Explorer

asked on March 11, 2015

We get an error message whenever we try to select a signing certificate to digitally sign a document in Web Access and Internet Explorer 11. We open up the metadata for the document and select "Sign Document". The sign document dialog windows appears and we select our signature image. When we select our signing certificate we are presented with a list. We select the one that we normally use in the client and it gives us a invalid certificate error. It will not let us select the certificate therefore we can't sign the document.

This happens on multiple machines. We are using Laserfiche Web Access 9.2.0.67.

It's possible that there's a problem with one of the other certificates in the certificate chain.  If you use the Windows Certificate Manager (certmgr.msc) you should be able to find that certificate, and its "Certification Path" tab will show you what certificates it depends on.  I would guess that one of them is either missing or expired.  You can go up the list and click the "View Certificate" button on each node to see its details.
