Pull field data from the folder of a starting entry

I want the user to be able to create a document in a folder that has field values applied to it. I then want to be able to retrieve that field data from the folder and the folder name to use to populate field values in my starting document. I do not see the parent folder as an option to pull info from. Any suggestions?

Assuming we're talking Workflow?

You can run Find Entry on the starting entry's path to get a hold of that folder, then get its fields.
