Question

Quick Fields 9.0.0.441

asked on March 2, 2015

Every so often I get documents where in the field it gives me the error " The value in this field is too long by x amount of characters" The amount listed for "x" is the same number of characters that is in the field. The only way to clear this is by making the field(s) blank. Quite a number of these fields are hard programmed fields that with other documents that were processed during the same session don't come up with this error. The only way I have been able to process the document is to clear all fields, send to a folder in Laserfiche, repopulate the fields and process into workflow manually.  If I resend them through Quick Fields I get the same error for that document.

Is it possible that the field length has changed and Quick Fields didn't get a chance to run the field updater?

Derek,

Are you filling these fields with a database look up by any chance?

Miruna, No the fields have not changed.

John, No database lookups. A couple of the fields are drop down lists in Laserfiche a couple of date fields then others are text

Then I would go with Miruna's suggestion even if they haven't changed. Worth a look see either way. Here is how you get to the Metadata Updater setting.

In your Quick Field session go to Tools and then select options. On the right side select Metadata Updater.

I like to set mine to Update Laserfiche metadata when a session is opened. Just make sure you uncheck the next checkbox labeled "Run only once a day per session" Especially while troubleshooting this issue.

Hit Ok and then save the session, close it and reopen it.  Then test the issue again and see if it continues to happen.

Thanks John, yeah I knew where those settings were and my session is set to update everytime Laserfiche is opened.
