WebLInks version 8.2.2 "Weblink8" as part of the URL

asked on February 26, 2015

Currently, in Laserfiche Weblinks version 8.2.2,  Weblink8 is in the url.  What happens when there is an upgrade to Weblinks 9?  Does that change the URL to have weblinks9 in the url ?

If so,  what happens to users that have used Weblinks 8 in the url links on their company's website.  Currently, we are making hundreds of links to Laserfiche Weblinks  from our website.

When version 9 is installed, will we have to go back and re-link everything with the 9 in it?  These changes to our website could take weeks to change.

WebLink 9 installs a WebLink8 virtual directory which will automatically redirect existing links, with no additional configuration. It may not be a bad idea to plan to update your links at some point, just so you aren't relying on redirects, but it won't be something you need to do the instant you update. For reference, Web Access 9.2 still includes the same sort of WebAccess8 redirect.

I never understood why Laserfiche thought it was a great idea to have the major version number (or anything else besides "weblink") of the product associated with the product in a URL. Maybe this should be an enhancement request.

Request granted! WebLink 9 already just does weblink. No version number. wink

WebLink 7 and WebLink 8 could co-exist on the same server, so we needed a new virtual directory name. That's no longer an issue with versions 8 and 9, so the name is back to "WebLink" only like Pava mentioned above.
