importing metadata from dev server to prod server

I am new to LF.

We have a DEV repo server that we have been testing on. I have created a bunch of Metadata templates, tags and fields. I want to export and import to production.

I want to move these to our production REPO, first time doing this export/import thing. So I exported the XML files for templates, tags and field from our DEV repo. On production, I import the repo objects - it shows a progress bar, no errors, but no objects show up on the production repo. Am I missing something?

Hi Jeff,

I would recommend just packing up some documents into a briefcase file by going File --> Export --> briefcase. Within the briefcase will contain all the metadata that is on the documents. Just make sure each of your templates are in the export(could even be a blank document with no images). It is much easier than dealing with volume exports. Once you import the file to the new repository, it will ask to match the document types.

Another option which I prefer is using the admin console without briefcase or exporting.

1) Attach both Laserfiche servers to your admin console session. (Can do action New Server Registration by selecting the top node).

2) Expand the metadata management section of both repositories, DEV and Production

3) Click and drag the metadata template you want to move over the Template section of the place you want to move it to. (Your curser will look like a No smoking sign until you are over the Template section of the destination, then it will change to a + sign.)

All fields will move with it. If an existing field name exists, it will ask how you want to resolve the conflict.

Hope this helps, it's my favorite way for sure!

The method you first mentioned should work as well, you're not missing anything there.

Hit F5 after importing to refresh the console window?

Check to ensure your permissions are the same? (Manage Templates and Fields, Manage Links)
