Question

Unable to Export Multi-page Documents from Laserfiche (Exports as Only One Page)

asked on February 12, 2015

When exporting most multi-page documents from Laserfiche, they export as only a single page from the document (as a PDF). This was a recent discovery, as we have been able to successfully export all documents in the past. Is this a known issue? Has anyone experienced this problem?

Hi Brianna,

Update:

We were able to determine what the root problem was, and I'll mention it in the case that someone else might run into the same issue. It was a server space issue-- essentially, we were running out of space where the Laserfiche files were stored. As files were deleted from that area (creating temporary space), the issue "resolved itself." As new files were added in later on; however, we ran into the same issue. The solution was to free up more space on the server. We imagine the lack of space caused Laserfiche to pick and choose what pages were exported (causing an incomplete export).

Hello Lauren,

Could you provide some more detail? Some key points:

  1. Is this happening to all users, for all documents?
  2. Since you didn't specify Web Access, I assume you are using the desktop Client. Is that correct?
  3. What is the version of the Client you are using? the more exact, the better (for example, I have 9.2.0.343).
  4. How are users exporting? Are they selecting the document in the folder browser, or while viewing the individual documents?

Providing more detail helps us try to reproduce the issue or make suggestions.

Brianna -

1. All users, not all documents. We haven't been able to find a pattern in which documents are successfully exported and which ones aren't.

2. Yes, we are using the desktop version of Laserfiche

3. Version 8.3.1.625

4. We've tried exporting multiple ways, but they all seem to produce the same result. We've tried:

-Dragging and dropping the file onto the desktop (folder view)

-Clicking the export icon (folder view)

-Opening the document & file > export > image

-Opening the document, selecting all of the pages & file > export > image

I'll note, we're not able to email multi-page documents either. They attach as just one page.

I've attached a screencap of our export settings.

It sounds like this is specific to those documents, rather than a specific method of export or user profile. Your description does not match any known issues that I am aware of, and I was unable to reproduce it. It might be best to open a support case through your reseller and attach a sample document in a briefcase.

I do have a few more thoughts, though, if you want to troubleshoot a little more.

  • Do these documents only contain Laserfiche Image Pages, or do they also have associated pdfs or text-only pages?
  • Are these documents all new? If so, have there been any recent changes to how documents are imported?
  • Do these documents contain annotations (and do the working documents not contain annotations)?

Hi Brianna,

Oddly, the export seems to be working now. Not entirely sure what happened, only that it seemed to resolve itself. I'll open a ticket with our reseller if we experience the issue again.

Thanks for your help!

Lauren, thanks for figuring out the problem. We will look into having it return a helpful error message instead of silently skipping the pages.

how are you exporting the documents? drag and dropping from Laserfiche to desktop? or using File > Export > Image?
