Directory Server - Master license of database "susd_directoryserver" not gotten successfully.

posted on February 12, 2015

Does anyone know what this means? It is in the WebAdmin Operations event log.

It looks like you attempted to update the master license at some point.  If you are or were able to update the master license after that error, then the message is moot.

I ran an update a few days back when the MAC address changed, just to make sure it was not upset about the hardware change. I think this error was specificaly related to the security problem though since it went away after fixing that problem.

It seems quite likely that the change in the MAC address caused the issue. The master licenses that are generated for Directory Server or License Manager are tied to the hardware fingerprint of a machine, which would have been affected by the change in MAC address.

Furthermore, if you were trying to renew the master license, the "renewal" would in fact been seen as a new machine trying to activate. In this case, you would need to deactivate using the old machine info before you could activate again with the new one.

Somehow I was able to successfully just use the renew button in the latest version without deactivating. This error came further down the road when we had major issues. We had no errors after renewing and restarting the service on the day of the MAC address change.

It was found in the event log and might have been related to some of the problems we were having. After resolving the primary issue these messages went away. Never knew what it meant though.
