Question

only allow paste shortcut

asked on February 12, 2015

The customer I am working with does not want client files to move from a structured hierarchy. Is there a way to only allow the workers to copy and paste shortcuts to the files that they work with most often?

This customer has 2,775 client folders which are built up of about ~70 sub-folders each which is about 194,250 folders total. 40 different people work around this structure so if people are able to copy or move folders things would start to fall apart very fast.

Thanks.

I don't believe there's a way to remove other types of entry location operations except for shortcuts. The ability to move documents can be restricted through a number of ways, but that's not really the case for copying. Generally if you can access the document and have a place in the repository where you can create documents, you can copy the document. Two possible (and likely not practical) options would be a) not have a place the users can create documents; or b) place a redaction on the document somewhere and not grant the users the ability to see through redactions. If a document has a redaction, you can't copy it unless you can see through them, so you can't use that as a way to obtain a copy in a location where you can see them.
