Question

Save to Repository - Landscape?

asked on February 10, 2015 Show version history

Hey,

Is it possible to alter a Laserfiche Form to be saved as Landscape when using the Save to Repository function in Forms?

I have a wide form of 1200px that, when saved to Laserfiche at the end of Forms process is saved as Portrait. The form is no bigger than half the page so it looks rather odd.

Many thanks,

Dom

Hi Dominic,

It is possible to use CSS to change the form's orientation to landscape within Forms, but retaining that orientation when converting it to a tif or pdf in the Client is not currently supported. If you can provide more details about this use case (preferably an image of the form if you're comfortable with that, but otherwise some information detailing its current layout, why it's so wide, its use, etc.), I can pass the information along to the Forms development team as a feature request.

In the meantime, there may be a few form settings you can modify to alleviate the issue. To help narrow the width of the fields and lengthen the form, it's possible to set the field labels to reside above the fields rather than beside them. This is configurable in Form Settings under Labels. Field widths are also adjustable in each field's settings, and character limits can be set. Finally, adding CSS or JavaScript to the form will give you more extensive means of changing the layout.

Tanya, we would also find this feature very useful. Basically just need a checkbox on the "Save to Repository" service task to select whether to save it as portrait or landscape.

We have a lot of forms we are trying to recreate for student assessments. When dealing with Grading Rubrics it is easier to have a document in landscape mode because of the amount of information that goes across the page. We set our Forms to at least 1000px to accommodate them.

Thanks, Blake, for the info - I've passed it along to the Forms team!

We would like the ability to utilize landscape:     customer has a purchase order in which each item will  have the following fields for the "Items"  table

vendor ID  :  item : GL Code:  GL description  :  Qty :  Unit  :  Amount : total :

Department :  Project

This format allows the customer to be able to integrate each line with the accounting program and reduce errors on ordering along with project cost anyalisys .     Being able to view the form wider during approval process and as a pdf is extremely helpful.

Thanks for the details, Adam! I've passed them along as well.

Hi Tanya,

Thanks for the response. Similar to what both Blake & Adam have mentioned, we are recreating physical forms for sales and maintenance, and machine index records that contain a large number of table rows. It is more efficient for the accounts and engineers to process the records landscape, and as the images may be sent from Laserfiche to clients they need to be setup in a professional format.

I had played around with the CSS styling for a few other forms and have managed to recreate some forms into portrait style and they look great - but there a few forms that would be harder to interpret if changed! :)

any update on allowing landscape printing?  Customer forms do not look very good -- especially when they have an url link and word wrap is used to display column

We have a use case for this as well. We have numerous (10-12) fields within a row. When they are printed into Laserfiche, it is very condensed. It would be nice to have the option not to limit the page size when printed in, but take it px by px based on the web form.
