LF-Connector - Only able to access Menu Controls on the website

posted on February 6, 2015 Show version history

I am working with one of the approved web applications and LF Connector but I am only able to access the menu controls, not the actuall areas where there is customer data. There is no red box that appears when I hold the sniper icon over the data.

The object is a span, does LF connector not support spans?

Can you provide the logs and xml generated from the test utility, along with a screenshot of what exactly you are trying to grab from, and submit them to https://secure1.laserfiche.com/Forms/LfConnectorAppTests?

Also note that the test utility has been updated, please use the latest version from https://support.laserfiche.com/GetFileRepositoryEntry.aspx?id=3086&mode=download.

Thanks!

Ok, I submitted all the details. Strange thing is, I went back to test with the test utility and the test utility can see the field just fine every time. The new download you sent me does not have a field selector built in but the old one works, I just can't do it in the actual program.

That's interesting - the engine for obtaining information from the browser should be exactly the same between the test utility and the full Laserfiche Connector. Is it possible there were different local browser settings in place between when you tried the full Connector and when you tried the test utility? I haven't seen a scenario yet where they behaved inconsistently from each other, so I'm wondering if something else is going on.

Btw, the new version should have a field selector, but you need to select the window first and then click next. You'll get a new crosshair at this point which will display the red boxes. It's more like the full Connector in that regard.

Thanks for submitting the logs!

I jumped back and forth between the test util and the LF connector trying with the same window, only the utlity was working until about the 10th try, then suddenly the Connector started working and now all controlls are being highlighted in Red instead of just the menu controlls. Not sure what fixed it. This was all while using the non-Java script version both in the util and connector. The java option never worked.

Glad you got it working! We'll take a look at the logs and see if we can determine why it didn't the first time.

It's not uncommon for only one of the JS or UIAutomation to work. UIAutomation is basically a fallback for some scenarios where the JS method doesn't work. Often this has to do with internal windows security items, especially things like cross server frames. Note that this doesn't have anything to do with native support of Java applications, it's just which of two methods are used for reading the data from the web browser.

The logs don't show anything different between the two. If you happen to run into it again, screenshots or a video would be helpful so we can cross reference what you are doing with the logs. Thanks!

Ok, thanks. It has been red boxing all controls and working ever since.
