Question

Upgrade and move to Oracle

asked on January 27, 2015

We have someone who is looking to not only upgrade 2 sites from Laserfiche 8.0 and 8.3 to Laserfiche 9.2 but go from SQL to Oracle at the same time.

What would be the best practice method to accomplish this? Can it be done all at once or should it be broken up into two different approaches. If broken up, would it be best to convert the current Laserfiche instance(s) to Oracle and then upgrade or the opposite?

The easiest way would be to keep the old installation and simply move to the new 9.2 server.  You keep the old and move to the new version. That way, if there is a problem , you can go back.  The old SQL instance remains intact.

The process for moving to a new Oracle Server from SQL is covered in the Moving section of the Admin Guide.  There are Oracle specific instructions you need to look out for.  They are covered here.

When you install the LF Server, you will need to make sure that you follow the recommendations with respect to the Oracle client and Oracle db detailed in the LF readme that comes with the installation.
