Can you be more specific about what's not working?

when opening files via webdav (through Laserfiche or the mapped drive) the file location is C:\users\appdata\local\temp\(........).xlsx for instance, i was lead to believe this should show the webdav location as it should open on the server itself, therefore you are then able to create links between excel documents?

The client applications can't automatically detect that you've enabled WebDAV on the client machine.  You need to tell them to open edocs using that protocol via the Options dialog (under View | Open With).

yes open with webdav is enabled within the client software...so just to clarify and correct me if i am wrong, when opening via the webdav let's say via a mapped drive letter the file should open directly on the server and not in a local/temp folder? therefore showing the file path as for instance L:\laserfiche\lf\tonytest.xlsx, meaning i can link excel cells within different documents, as currently if i try the file path is my user profile directory, hope i am making sense?

I have WebDAV configured and opened three different workbooks (Book1.xlsx, Book1 (2).xlsx, and Book1 (3).xlsx) from my mapped network drive. My repository path where those documents are located is just /_Sample Documents/Edocs. Here is what the "recents" section in Excel looks like for me

Do you see something similar or does it still show the temp location?

That's how it's supposed to work.  Since it appears as a normal folder path there's no need to copy it locally, applications should be able to open it directly.  If you think you have it all configured correctly I would use a tool like Process Monitor to see what is causing the file to be copied.

Does the issue occur if you disable the Laserfiche Office Plugin for Excel? I was able to recreate the issue, albeit not every single time, but once I disabled the Office Plugin for Excel, then things worked fine. If you're seeing the same thing, then know that we have a bug filed for this and the workaround would be to keep the Office Plugin for Excel disabled.

It shows the correct when the plugin is disabled but I still then cannot link cells with in excel documents

Did you test this by creating a new cell link after the Office Plugin had been disabled? If you're using the same documents from before, then they would still have the bad reference locations.

Please test by first making sure the Office Plugin is disabled. Then take two new workbooks and create a cell link between them. See if that works for you.

Yes brand new links

You may want to open a new support case then as I can't recreate the issue. With the Office Plugin for Excel disabled, I'm able to create links between two workbooks just fine and open them successfully via WebDAV with the linked cell value updated correctly. See the linked video for reference. If you do open a support case, please provide a similar video demonstrating how you're creating the links and what the error is that's occurring.

yes, when creating new documents the linking does work as per your video, this is with laserfiche and is clearly a bug

After further research, this isn't a bug in the Office Plugin, but rather, a known limitation. Please see this Dev Notes page for more information. If you want to keep the Office Plugin enabled and also retain WebDAV functionality, then on the workstation, go into the registry to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Laserfiche\Client8\Profile\Options and create a new String called OPWebDAV and set the value to 0.

This should allow you to then create new valid cell links between Excel workbooks that are opened via WebDAV while the Office Plugin for Excel is enabled.

How do you link excel documents then? When the data source is closed and you open the main workbook with the links in?

We are facing issues when we are using WebDAV..  If I open excel document.. I getting a $ sign temp document also how to resolve this issue. ?

replied on January 29, 2015

That is not a Laserfiche issue, but rather how Microsoft Office works. Anytime you open/edit a Microsoft Office document, it automatically creates a temp copy in the same location that's named like ~$[FileName].xlsx. When you close your file, this temp copy will be removed automatically.
