Import Agent 9 service fails to start

asked on January 19, 2015

I have a customer that from time to time Import Agent service does not start, it has to be started manually. The Event Viewer error they get is "There was an error reading the license file. This program will exit. (Connection Failed).

Both Import Agent and Quick Fields Agent are installed on the same machine, and IA is the only one that is having this issue. Is this a known issue? Has anyone experienced this?

One scenario where we've seen this occur is when Import Agent is licensed from Laserfiche Directory Server, Import Agent, Laserfiche Directory Server, and the SQL instance used by LFDS are on the same machine, and the machine had just been rebooted.

What happens is that after a reboot, when the Import Agent service starts up, it tries to verify the license against LFDS. However, the LFDS site isn't available yet as it is waiting for SQL to finish mounting the database. Therefore, after LFDS and SQL finish starting up, then you'd need to start the Import Agent service separately.

This should be taken care of by the latest LFDS patch from KB 1013576. Another option is to configure the Laserfiche Import Agent Service to use the "Automatic (Delayed Start)" startup type.

Hi Sophia,

Who is the customer? Can you please attach the Application event log so we can see what other messages there might be?

Hi Alex,

The customer had rebooted after some updates were applied. Thanks for your help!
