File version control - questions

asked on January 13, 2015

1. Is it possible to set a documents starting version number for version control?

The use case is we are importing existing documents that are already at a version number and would like to retain this.

2. Is it possible to have sub version numbers eg 1.2 or 2.4 etc, looking at the setup I can not see this, is Laserfiche looking to add this?

1. Initial version numbers are not supported out of the box. You could have an SDK script create and delete versions until the version number you want, but that seems like a pretty clunky workaround.

2. This isn't supported yet, what is the use case?

One possible way of implementing sub versions may be to use a combination of Link Groups and Versioning in Laserfiche. Each document in the Link Group could represent a major version, i.e. 1.x, 2.x, etc. and you can use standard Versioning for those Link Group documents to get something like a 1.1, 1.2, etc. The structure would be there, but it may not be represented exactly by the use of sub version numbers.
