Leaving a window open while building a form.

posted on January 2, 2015

Hello,

Ive had quite a lot of issues with forms deleting parts of a form that ive built after it says its been saved at the top of the page.

I had it say saved at the top of the form creation screen and I left it open for about an hour. When I came back i had to log back in and everything I had done was gone.

If I return to the manage page and then go back into my form it opens another tab. if you get to many tabs open I feel like the auto save feature does not work correctly. I have lost work this way as well.

I also had it say saved and I took a moment to research a problem for an account and during this time we lost power to my desk and when I opened the form editor screen I lost about an hour worth of work.

Is there a way I can verify that it has been saved other than going to the manage page and then going back in?

The auto save feature works great when I am building a small form but when it takes an extended amount of time to complete the form it seems I am more likely to lose progress.

Ive had both these issues happen on two different Laserfiche forms environments.

Anyone else have these issues?

Seriously? There is no "Save" capability? I just lost nearly 4 hours of work--I had previewed the form many times and so I assumed it was auto-saving--as is indicated on the screen. But when the client did a search and the results came up in the current browser tab used for Forms Designer I had to browse "back" and everything was gone. Is it really not being saved?

The changes should be auto saved when you navigate away the page.  You can find the form id from the URL (http://xxx/Forms/design/layout/id) and check from cf_forms table to see whether the value of json_data of that Form is NULL, if it is not NULL then it means there is something wrong with auto save.

If you want to make sure your changes are actually saved next time before you navigate away, please just refresh on the Layout page.

We have enhanced the auto save mechanism since Forms 9.2.1 and the data won't be lost after session time out.

You can refresh on the Edit page to make sure the changes are really saved. The current auto save mechanism is that the data will actually be saved when you leave the Edit page or refresh the Edit page. So if you don't do the two actions, the data is actually not saved to the database. We will check how we can enhance the auto save mechanism.

This explains a lot. I kept losing all my work and it appears to be due to time out, but I didn't understand why it was undoing all of my saved changes. I should only lose the very last change since the last auto save. I suppose if the auto save is not real then it really shouldn't even be there. In any case how do you see where you are in your session period, a visual would be helpful so that you know to save before time out. Also a save button please, just seems easier than clicking on menu items.

Brian,

I too have lost work this way. What I started doing is to switch to one of the other pages in the form editor as soon as I was done with the designer, usually field rules. Since I started doing that I haven't lost any form progress.
