Question

Are LaserFiche licenses concurrent?

asked on December 29, 2014

We are running LaserFiche Avante licensed for 50 named users. We have assigned 51 (40 named devices and 11 named users or something like that). Everything seems fine. Can I name 100 devices/users? Will it deny the 51st connection? How does the licensing work?

Hi Jim,

If you are using Laserfiche Avante and have a 50 named user system, then you should not have been allowed to assign a 51st named user license. An error message should have indicated that you've reached the license limit upon attempt at allocating a 51st named license (to a user or device).

What's the exact version of the Laserfiche Server that you're using? Are you using the same version of the Laserfiche Administration Console (desktop or web) as the Laserfiche Server?

It may be best to open a support case with your reseller as this could potentially result in future problems of people not being able to access the system due to this license allocation issue.

Thanks,

That's what I expected to happen. Server is running 9.0.2 build 671. Admin console says 9.0.1.610 in "Help>About. If I select the server in the Admin Console it shows "Named Users and Device Licenses Assigned" 51 and "Total Named User Licenses" 50. There are generally fewer than 10 active sessions so that got me thinking that maybe the licenses were concurrent. I haven't heard a thing from any end users so there are no errors that I'm aware of.

I would recommend removing the 51st named license that had been allocated. Then apply the latest 9.0.2 Server patch from KB 1013245. Next, upgrade the Client/Admin Console to 9.0.2 as well and then apply the latest 9.0.2 Client patch from KB 1013293. At that point, see if you are still allowed to assign a 51st named license. If you are, then please contact your Laserfiche reseller to open a support case.

Thanks again. I will remove the 51st user and apply the patches.
