Laserfiche 9.0: Dropbox workaround for iPad?

asked on December 15, 2014

One of our clients is asking if there is a workaround that would basically allow Laserfiche to function more like Dropbox. The problem is that, if there was an issue connecting to the repository, the client wouldn't be able to access a file unless he'd already exported it to his device. With Dropbox, a file saved to a folder is copied to all devices that have the installed client, so if their servers are down you may not be able to sync/upload files to the folder but you can still access its content because it's is already on your device.

It's a sticky point that's keeping this client from getting onboard the LF bandwagon but I'm not sure of a good solution - if you can't access the repository then you can't access the files. I was wondering if others had come up against this as well. Would something along the lines of automatically exporting files saved to a folder on LF to the client be feasible?

Laserfiche does not have DropBox like sync'ing functionality.  If the end user has considered the security risks that come with using a sync'ing service such as DropBox and still wants that functionality, I think would recommend that they use the sync'ing service of their choice to sync files with their devices and then use a combination of Import Agent, WorkFlow, and SDK to tie it all together with Laserfiche.
