Question

Real time look up fields

asked on December 8, 2014

Hi ,

I'm using the Real time look ups in Quick Fields to populate the metadata field values from the database. So when I try to configure a field, it should open up like a list/dropdown with values coming from a column in the database. Also, I want to be able to set the value initially , not when the document is processed.

For example, if Quick Fields classifies a particular document as a particular type, the field should have a particular value that I have picked from the list coming from the database.

Is this possible? Or is real time look ups only meant for using after the scanning has taken place?

TIA!

Regular real time lookups only are configured in the client (desktop or web), and then only on that template. Outside of that template (including in quick fields) they are presented as a plain text field.

That being said, you can use real time lookup in Quick Fields - you just have to pay for that feature. This page gives you instructions on this if you already own this module, such as with Quick Fields Complete:

I have the Real time look up feature available.

I wanted to know if I can make the field work like a list or dropdown?

For example , I have 2 fields Document Name and Document Type. Since there are about 10 Document types , I would like the field to be a dropdown, where I can pick the value depending on the document class. Once I pick the document type, the document name dropdown loads with a list of values ( just like a dependent dropdown) . I wanted to know if this feature is available?

TIA!

Shraddha,

To be honest I assumed you could get Quick Fields to return you a list using the Real Time Lookup option, but in closely reading the instructions I linked  it doesn't look possible.

It's been a while since I troubleshot a Real Time lookup issue in QF. I don't really use it in the manner I did 3-4 years ago since workflow has the same functionality baked in since 8.3. Most of our Quick Fields installs are either very simple manual QF runs or they are more complex QF Agent installs where you wouldn't want that functionality inside QF.

Yup, but he's looking to use dynamic fields inside Quick Fields. That doesn't work there.
