Question

Using Intellisense in the template fields

asked on December 4, 2014

Hi ,

I have this use case, where the end users should be able to pick the type of document from the dropdown in the template. Is there any way , we can use intellisense with this ?

Thanks!

Hey Shraddha,

I assume by intellisense you are referring to the auto-completion of the field while a user is typing? You can do this with either list fields or dynamic fields. Here is an example:

The Name field shown above lists any options that begin with the letters typed in. From there, the user just has to select which name they were attempting to typing in. This is possible as long as the field has a list of values to pull from, namely either list values or a database table.

One thing to note: you can determine how many options are listed in the drop down by setting the attribute:

[Settings]MaxDropDownLength

If you still see the complete drop down list instead of a few values that pop up as you type, you will need to lower the value of the attribute.

Thanks Jason,

[Settings]MaxDropDownLength

is good to know.

Is this setting per template, per field, or overall?

The setting [Settings]MaxDropDownLength is a user setting, so it should be applied to the specific user or to the Everyone group, and would then apply to all fields that have a suggestion list (List and Dynamic fields).

Making a fields a List field affects all instances of that field. Dynamic Fields are set up per template.

Hi Guys,

Just to confirm, this is a great option and i have just set it up and it is working the way i would like it to work. My question is though, if i have dynamic fields that are populating based on the first initial field selected, it is not populating the rest of the fields that are required?

Is there something I am missing? Or is this possible with this option?

Usually when the field is a dynamic field, we can set Parent Fields, do these fields work if this option is set on?

Please advise?

Thank you

Ziad

I'm having the same Issue as Ziad, only the parent dynamic field get populated, but not the others fields that depends on that one.

How we can correct this?

Hi, with the latest update on the Laserfiche client I can no longer use this functionality. I get the error "Dynamic field validation has failed". Any workarounds or fixes?
