Question

Cluster-Full Text Search

asked on December 2, 2014

Dears,

I have a case where Laserfiche is clustered as active passive.

I want to segregate the Laserfiche Full text service from the Laserfiche servers and install it on a separate server:

1- Possible to have it (Full test and search indexing service) installed on another single server which works with the clustered LF services?

2- Possible to install it on another two Servers and cluster it?

Thanks,

Dory

Hey Dory,

You can definitely separate LFFTS from the Laserfiche Server in order to boost the dedicated resources for LFFTS.

As you can see in this thread, we're in the process of developing the ability to add clustering support to LFFTS and we're hoping it will be ready for the next major release.  So in other words, you won't be able to install it on multiple servers by itself to split the load amongst the shared resources.  What you can do alternatively is to set up Laserfiche Server and LFFTS on two different machines, one for active and one for passive.  If one goes down, deactivate it and use the activation code to bring the other system online.

Let us know if you have any questions!

I suppose you mean high availability cluster (failover cluster), instead of high performance cluster. The previous reply is about high performance cluster. High availability cluster (failover cluster) is supported by LFFTS.

There is a KB about deploying failover cluster, see https://support.laserfiche.com/GetFileRepositoryEntry.aspx?id=2204&mode=download. This KB is 3 years ago, and distributed search engine was not supported at that time. So that, two machines are required in the KB. Each machine has LFFTS and Laserfiche Server installed.

Since LF 8.3, distributed search engine is supported. I haven't tested failover cluster with distributed search engine. However I suppose all the following four failover cluster configurations should work:
1. There are 2 machines, each machine has LFFTS and Laserfiche Server installed (as mentioned in the KB);
2. There are 3 machines, one for LFFTS, and the other two for Laserfiche Server cluster.
3. There are 3 machines, one for Laserfiche Server, and the other two for LFFTS cluster.
4. There are 4 machines, two for LFFTS cluster, and the other two for Laserfiche Server cluster.

So the answer is yes to both of your questions.
