Question

Hyperlink in Field to open from WebAccess

asked on December 1, 2014

Hi,

I have a document captured from LF Mobile, which has GeoInfo, I want to translate that into a URL, which when clicked should be opened in Google Maps.
This is to be done on WebAccess, that means there is a field called Maps, which has URL like: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=  & then the geoinfo token, which is being done by WF.

The problem is that the URL is not hyperlink so user can't click on it.
Format of field Maps is Text.

Can anyone please guide me in right direction?

Regards,

S

Hi,

If you get the URL inside a Sticky Note, it becomes a clickable link in WebAccess (EDIT: and the client as well). This can set up your workflow to add it with the URL and the geotag token.

Hope it helps!

Thanks, I did notice that, but then the user has to open the document & moreover if we want to pass that
value to the Folder containing that document then it doesn't help.

Any suggestions?

Hey Sahil,

The user will need to open the metadata or the document either way, correct?  This shouldn't be a concern from an efficiency standpoint.

Keep in mind that you can use the value multiple times, so you can add it to the document AND folder metadata along with adding it to the sticky note.  The values in the metadata won't be links, but the sticky note should solve that.

I understand, but there are not only documents which are images, that way user will always will have to look for images & then sticky note?

This definitely is not efficient.

The metadata is stored as plain text, so if there's no image, then there won't be a way to open any part of the document to follow a link.

Brianna commented below with an alternative solution that sounds like it should fit your case.  I'm not too familiar with the customization, but a toolbar button would likely be an efficient way to find locations in Google Maps!

If you are willing to dig into some advanced customization, EDM302: Advanced Topics in Web Customization from Empower 2014 may help.

In the custom server-side actions section, we talked about creating a custom button that goes to a specific URL that depends on a field value of the currently selected document.

The ZIP file in that link includes example code.

Thanks, I am sure it will help on client side.

Does it also help in case of web access? As clients are using only Mac.

Thanks

If you are referring to my suggestion above, the presentation I linked is only for Web Access. I do not know if/how you could implement it for the desktop Client.

Thanks, I haven't seen it yet, I will see & revert back.
