We have a client that wants the Action History to contain the name of the user that completed the task with the normal action history.
The problem is that they do not have consistent names for the users in their Active directory. About half are full names, and the other half are first names or nicknames. These short/nicknames are a problem as they want the full name to be displayed in the action history.
It seems based on a previous answer that the "Name" attribute in AD is what is used for the action history, but the client is wondering why we are not able to instead define the Name attribute in Forms to be taken from the "Display Name" attribute in Active Directory. Alternatively, if we are able to just have the Action history use the Display Name instead of the "Name" attribute, then this would also be acceptable.
This issue is not just felt by this one client. Many customers have systems where their user accounts were created and then managed by different IT groups/teams and so inconsistency inside organizations should be assumed, and not ignored. Changing the name of an account is tedious and involved, so doing it on any large scale is quite labor intensive due to having to change information in many locations that communicate and use those account names, but changing an attribute like "Display Name" has less consequences and overhead.
